Urgent care facilities look to help more patients
06.03.2011
Many individuals require medical care for a malady that is not life-threatening but still needs to be treated promptly. However, as some emergency rooms are facing problems with overcrowding, urgent care facilities have stepped in to provide people with the fastest treatment possible. The number of urgent care facilities is growing across the country as the healthcare sector looks to provide as much coverage to people as possible, according to NewsChannel 5 WTVF in Nashville, Tennessee.
Urgent care facilities not only take care of those who do not want to wait in an emergency room, but may also help patients receive affordable treatment.
"For folks who may have lost their job or fallen on hard times financially, we offer solutions that are better than just the emergency department," Dr. Marc Watkins, who works at a local urgent care center, told the news provider.
The Urgent Care Association of America reports that there are more than 8,500 facilities across the country that provide fast service to patients suffering from an acute illness or injury.
